Former NHL Agent
Vitali Shevchenko released the following statement today on the passing of
Vladimir Krutov
Vancouver, BC --- "It was with real sadness that I
learned today of the death of Vladimir Krutov. I extend my deepest condolences to Vladimir Krutov's friends
and family. He had a legendary hockey career and his unrivaled passion for the
game quickly made him a fan favorite to all that love the sport." said
Vitali Shevchenko, Mr. Krutov's former agent.
Mr. Shevchenko recruited and signed Vladimir Krutov to be
the first Soviet player with Vancouver Canucks during 1989-1990 NHL Season. Mr.
Shevchenko vividly recalls the first time he entered Vancouver Canucks General
Manager, Mr. Pat Quinn's office (nicknamed "The Big Irishman") to
represent Mr. Krustov as his agent.
Mr. Shevchenko said, "First thing Mr. Quinn asked me
was "How old are you son?” I told him "I'm 25", smoking a big
cigar Mr. Quinn screamed across his desk "get the F--- Out of my Office!”
I was determined and knew Vladamir's superior hockey skills gave me the upper
hand in all negotiations and refused to leave, strong and loud words were
exchanged and the rest was history, I got Vladimir signed to play for the
Vancouver Canucks."
Later Vladimir Krutov was formally known for famous
KLM-line, Krutov, Larionnov, Makarov and awarded in 1997 with a gold stick as
outstanding left wing in Europe.
Mr. Shevchenko's NHL player agent career began by
representing Vladimir Krutov and later proceeded to recruit some of the
greatest Russian hockey players like Alexander Godynyuk, Dimitri Khristich and
Bogdan Savenko to ever play in the NHL.
